A Little Won’t Hurt

For the last year, I have been on a diet. It is a low-carb, high-protein diet, and I have done very well on it, losing 30 pounds. But I have been at a fishing camp in Alaska for the last three weeks, and I am pretty sure I have gained at least 15 pounds back. There are four reasons for my rapid weight gain. First, there were 18 people here for two weeks, and they were all eating, so I just joined in. Second, George, the cook, fixes amazingly good meals, and it is so hard to resist eating his good food. Third, we fish, take a break back at the lodge, then fish some more, and every time we come back from fishing is a good reason to eat again. And the fourth reason is that it is only for three weeks; no big deal. I can lose it quickly when I get back home to my normal routine.

Over the years I have seen so many people fall away from their faith in Jesus and get lukewarm. People don’t realize how easy it is. A little compromise here, just one small one, and then another, no big deal. One day of skipping my Bible reading isn’t going to make any difference, just one. A little break isn’t going to hurt anything; I will get right back to it as soon as this vacation is over.

1 Timothy 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

Hebrews 3:12 Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.
