Heresy

I heard somewhere a number of years ago that heresy is created by truth out of balance with another truth that is in tension with it, or put another way, majoring on one truth and ignoring another. An example would be the place that good works has in our salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” So if that were the only verse in the Bible it would be easy to say, good works don’t matter. But the very next verse in Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” In Hebrews 6:9 it says, “But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation”. I am convinced after 42years of ministry that many who say they are Christians, who sincerely believe they are Christians are pseudo Christians, which seems apparent by their behavior, which means that some day they will stand before God and He will say to them, “depart from Me, I never knew you”. God created everything, He created hell as a place of torment, He created eternity with Him as a place of incomprehensible joy. He makes the rules, He determines truth, our opinions and beliefs, no matter how strong don’t determine reality. A person who says, “I am not going to believe in a God who would send people to Hell”, I wonder after they have been there for awhile if they will feel vindicated. Our place in eternity is so important, we should seek truth humbly, as a learner, not a know it all, we should seek God humbly, if we truly seek Him we will find Him. Don’t think that the intellectual acknowledgement to a historical fact that Jesus existed and does exist is “believing in Jesus”. You will find yourself on the wrong side of eternity some day, and then it is to late.
