Last night was our weekly Wednesday night service and I preached a sermon from 2 Peter. When I got home last night after the service I had such an adrenaline high that I couldn’t go to sleep until 1:00 am. I enjoy preaching so much, the study, the writing and thinking about how to make things clear and understandable, the actual teaching time, and then the conversation with people after the service.
It is an activity that I sense a strong partnership with God as He speaks through me and works in the hears and lives of people. The times that I teach the Bible are the most supernatural experiences of my life. Each week I teach seven different times and each time for 40 to 60 minutes. The rest of the week I am reading, studying, writing, thinking, and praying about what and how to say what I want to make clear to people.
1 Timothy 4:16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure sanctification both for yourself and for those who hear you.
Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the Lord and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel.
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
I consider myself incredibly blessed to have spent the last 50 years of my life doing what I love most, and having the Lord bless me and use me for His glory.
Every believer and follower of Jesus has a giftedness from God, that sweet spot that is incredibly rewarding, exciting, fun, and bears much fruit. Most Christians haven’t figured out what it is though, which is very sad to observe and to think about. If I didn’t know what it was that God had wired me to do I would be totally obsessed with figuring out what it was.
