My Brain Turns on when I Write

Today is Tuesday, and on Tuesday’s I write most of the day from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm, with a few walking breaks thrown in if my legs are cramping up to much. Today I wrote the church family letter for JBC and also the church family letter for Agape Family Fellowship, our daughter church that meets in Tangent. Then I wrote a report for a pastor accountability group that I am in. I am speaking at a men’s breakfast in Sweethome this Saturday so I needed to write that sermon, and then when I finished that I moved on to the sermon I will be preaching at JBC on Wednesday night and Agape on Sunday morning. On Tuesdays I try and get a couple of extra blogs written for days that I am super busy.

Before I start writing I have no clue most of the time what I will write about. Sometimes I start with “today is Tuesday and I have no clue what I will write about,” and then this switch goes off in my head and I just keep writing. After a little bit of writing, I usually take a turn in a particular direction and I get more and more focused on a topic and out pops this sermon, blog, or lesson. It is always kind of exciting to see what the end product will be when I start. There have been times when I am finished and read over the finished product, that I don’t like what I have written at all so I wad it up and throw it away.

I have wondered about this gift of writing that I seem to have. I pray every day that God will guide me and help me to perfect it so that I can have more and more influence on people who read what I have written or listen to the sermons that I preach. I pray that God will grant me a special anointing when I write, and that He will draw people and prompt them to read my stuff, and that their lives will be impacted positively towards Jesus.
